Manchester United Bolsters Forward Options with Loan Signing of Dutch International Wout Weghorst
- World Soccer Today -
Manchester United has acquired Dutch player Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley for the rest of the season.
Weghorst had been on loan at Besiktas, but the Turkish club cut the deal short and received 2.8 million euros for it.
Manchester United has been in need of a striker since Cristiano Ronaldo's contract ended in November.
Weghorst joined Burnley for £12 million in January 2022 but only scored 2 goals during the season.
Despite this, he scored 9 times in 18 games while on loan at Besiktas and also scored twice for the Netherlands in a World Cup quarter-final match against Argentina.
He will bring added depth to the team as they are still competing in four competitions.
Weghorst is excited to join Manchester United and is looking forward to playing his part in helping the team achieve their goals.
He will not be able to play in the upcoming match against Manchester City, but he will be available to play in the future matches.
Manchester United's football director, John Murtough, said that Weghorst's consistent goal-scoring record in several European leagues and his attributes will add a further dimension to the squad for the rest of the season.
This loan signing will provide a boost to the team's forward options and help them in their quest for success in the remaining competitions.
